Tips and Tricks!

Wisdom Wednesday!

Today, I thought it would be very helpful to give and share some advice on what has gotten me through the aches and pains of being a pre-nursing student so far.

The list follows:
  1. Stay on top of all your work.
  2. Do not, I repeat, do not procrastinate things. 9 times out of 10, you will pull your hairs out trying to get it done, end up submitting something that is bad quality, or even missing the deadline.
  3. When things get hard, remind or even think about why you want to down this route. #forthekids #forthepoeple
  4. Always balance your work and life schedule. This very IMPORTANT. Time for work and time for yourself and your friends will help you maintain a happy life.
  5. Always look over your mistakes. This counts for school and your personal life. Failure often leads to success as long as you are looking at your mistakes and learning from them.
  6. Study, study, study! Do not cram. Trust me, you aren't even learning. Create a study schedule and take 15-20 minutes to review some of your materials. You will actually use the information you read and look over for future reference.
  7. Reward yourself! After you get a good grade, go get some Starbucks or even something you've been craving. Hard work = A free pass to cheat your diet (Sometimes...).
  8. You might fail the very first quiz or test for the course you're enrolled in and THAT IS OKAY! You have the rest of the semester to get your grade up, don't let that bring you down.
  9. Work hard and always try to do your best. You don't want to have any regrets or think that you could've done better. If you do it right the first time, one time is enough.
  10. Lastly, breathe! When the world feels like it's coming down on top of your shoulders, just breathe. This mechanism will not only help to clear your mind, but it will instantly make you feel better!
If someone could give me any advice before I started college, this would definitely be a life saver. Especially with this major, take notes on these tips and tricks!

All the best,
Amanda

Last Day To Drop

 A not so happy Friday,

Today, I had decide without or not I would like to drop any of my classes without any penalties. The only class I was considering dropping was the Microbiology Lab, as I am not doing as well as I need to be. I'm sad to admit that even though I dedicate so much of my time to this class, my grade is not reflecting it. If I do not meet my milestone of a B, then I do not receive the credit for the class. Throughout the day, it came down to if I thought I could bring my grade up by the end of the semester. I would like to share my thought process with you all...

"What if you don't meet your milestone?"

"What if you drop and just retake the course?"

"There is still grades that need to be put in... Don't just quit."

"I am so exhausted, this class has been so hard."

"You need this credit in order to stay on track."

"I don't want to have to retake this course again and be in the same position as I currently am."

"Amanda, you're not dropping you got this. You're going to be a nurse!"

This was definitely one of the toughest decisions that I've had to make so far. In the end, I came to the conclusion that staying in the class and putting in more effort than I already have could be the solution. Although this is a risky choice, I am ready to put on my big girl pants and face this challenge. With only 1 more month left, I need to stop doubting myself and kick microbiology in the butt. If you're on the same boat as me, let's study sometime... lol!

ISO a study buddy,

Spring Semester

Happy Spring!

I am back again with lots of updates! I am currently in the Spring semester and for this semester I am taking:

ENC2135

HUN1201

MCB2004 Lecture & Lab

STA2023 Lecture & Lab

As I am 2 months into this semester, I can say that I am definitely stressed out. Between my non-science classes and my science classes, I am feeling the heat without a doubt. The main reason for this is because in any science class there is a lot of content and information being given. For my class specifically, I have all Honor-lock quizzes and tests. In addition, the lab for microbiology is all written response and this is difficult because I am taking this course online, instead of in-person which gives me less of a learning advantage. Without studying, I would not be able to keep up with the course load and perform well on the quizzes and tests. Currently, I am working on a project which has been going well so far. I have to keep reminding myself that if I want to get where I want to be, accepted into the Nursing Program, I need to stay on top of it all. Although it is a lot and I'm guessing my fellow peers can relate, we must push through! We got this!

Feeling stressed,

Amanda

First Semester - Fall

Hi again!

It wasn't until recently that I decided to create blog, so I wanted to fill you in about my first semester as a nursing major at Florida State. Every major has to follow something called an academic map which works to help all students stay on track and meet their academic milestones.

During the fall semester I took:

ARH 2000 - Art Arch Artitc Visn

BSC 2010 - Biological Science 1

IDS2420 - Heretics, Rebels and Militants

MAC1105 Lecture & Lab - College Algebra

The only science class that I took was BSC2010, which was definitely a challenging course. I remember putting in at least 15 hours of work a week. On top of this, the exams were lengthy, which made the end of the semester feel like such a relief. After taking this course and the other essential courses, I started to rethink if nursing was something I really wanted to pursue. I knew that it was only going to get more challenging from here, but I thought, "This is something I really want, all I have to do is put in the work."

I'm happy to say that I did well Fall semester and even made it on the Dean's List! I am glad that I decided to stick through it and I genuinely enjoy all that I have learned thus far!

Take tuned,

Amanda

Introduction

To my fellow peers,

Hi everyone! My name is Amanda Smale and I am currently a freshman at Florida State University. The medical field has always amused me as ever since I was 11 years old I would watch famous surgeons perform intensive surgeries on their patients. My mom would catch me watching these procedures and not only tell me how crazy I am, but also say how if I liked it so much, why don't I pursue that as my career in college? Fast forward to college applications and I decided to major in nursing, which would fulfill my utmost dream of working within the medical field and helping others. I decided to create this blog to track my progress and share my experiences with you. Although this may be a rollercoaster of emotions, I hope you can relate and find this to be a resource to you as this as a safe place. Feel free to make comments or better yet, reach out! Don't forget to subscribe so you can stay up to date and know when I make a post!

All the best,

Amanda
